Smart meters

What are they?

Smart meters display meter readings on a digital screen and can be read remotely.

Analog meters have a rotating disk. The meter reading is displayed on a counter with digits on rotating wheels.

What is the negative impact on health?

Smart meters communicate remotely with high-frequency radiation that is permanently present and is at least as strong as that of mobile phones.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has classified this radiation as potentially carcinogenic.

What can you do?

  • In Belgium, you have the right to refuse this meter until a wired version is available.
